Elberta peaches are the reason we have not canned any peaches yet this year. Why? Because Elbertas are simply the best. Now it's time.
What a deal - these are going for only .99/lb, or
19.99 (sorry, this is produce, prices change constantly)/ 22.99/box (24 pounds). Get your freezers cleared out, and your canning jars ready to go!
Thanks so much for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI went by the market today and the Elberta peaches are $19.99/24# box, but they also had Freestone canning peaches that were $22.99/24# box.
I've never canned before and wanted to try peaches this year (I have an experienced friend coming to help). My friend and I thought the Elbertas were sorta small, but the Freestones were a bit bigger. Is this normal? Or is it just early for Elbertas? And, do you know what makes the 2 different?
Thanks!
Yes, you are right, they are 19.99/box! In my opinion peaches are one of the easiest things to can, so it will be a great way for you to start. It is just the beginning of the Elbertas, but they do not last long. Elbertas are just one variety of peach, and they are freestone, too. Freestone just means the pits come out easily. Otherwise, Elbertas are just known for their awesome flavor and juiciness, so many people look forward to them. That is not to say there are not many other excellent varieties of peaches out there, and so you just buy what looks good to you and you really can't go wrong!
